Virgin hopes to retain its drivers in 2012

On the occasion of the British Grand Prix, Eric Boullier declared that Marussia Virgin Racing wished to retain the services of Jérôme D’Ambrosio for the 2012 season. The young Belgian has had a convincing first part of the season and could therefore remain with Virgin next season.

Boullier also explained that Virgin was not the only option for D’Ambrosio and that he was going to meet another team at the Nürburgring.

But according to Graeme Lowdon, president of Virgin Racing, that is not the case. “I spoke with Jérôme’s manager at Silverstone and it’s simply not true. We are happy with the drivers we have and it would be nice to continue with them,” he explained to the daily Star.

The lineup of Marussia Virgin Racing might remain the same as in 2012 since Timo Glock would also stay next season. The German driver, who didn’t hesitate to complain about the lack of competitiveness of his car at the beginning of the season, seems to have regained his motivation following Nick Wirth’s departure from the team and especially thanks to the technical partnership signed with McLaren-Mercedes. “We have a very open relationship, so if someone were talking to him (Timo Glock), we would be the first to know,” says Lowdon.
