Lotus Renault GP allowed the team’s fans and Robert Kubica fans to ask questions to the Polish driver. In this interview, Robert Kubica reflects on his accident but also talks about the current season and especially the next one, which should see the driver’s return to the starting grids.
How do you feel physically and mentally?
«Mentally there is no problem. Physically, I am still a little weak but my overall condition is good. My weight has returned to normal and for the past few weeks I have been able to walk without assistance. Overall, I feel good.»
Do you think this accident changed anything in your mindset as a driver?
I don’t think so. I don’t have any memory of the accident and I’m just aware of the consequences. For me, it’s as if it never happened.
Do you think it helps you become a better pilot?
Let’s hope so! But in reality, I don’t see why because I think I would be back exactly as before.
Which team will you return to next year?
«I am a Lotus Renault GP driver. Of course, I miss not being able to race this season, but I feel that my work at Enstone is not finished yet.
What do you think of the V6 for 2014?
«I could tell you when I have tested it because, due to the turbo, I think the driving experience will be different than it is currently.
Do you think the DRS was a good idea?
Yes, there is more action on track and the rule of the second gap creates more challenge.
How is your recovery going?
As I said, I am satisfied with the way things are progressing. The progress is in line with expectations and fortunately there are no complications that could affect my recovery. It’s still too early to have a precise idea of when I will return, but the important thing is the end result.
Are you ready to return to the grid next year and fight for the championship?
Yes to the first question. For the second, we have to wait until the first trials in 2012.
What do you think of the team’s performances this year?
Not bad, even though it has decreased a bit, especially in qualifying. I know there are some new developments that will arrive in the upcoming races and that should help us get back to where we were at the beginning of the season. Besides, at Silverstone, the diffuser issues clearly affected our competitiveness, which we will certainly recover in Germany.
When you return to competition, what is the first thing you will do?
I would relax with my engineers in the briefing room for a moment and then I would start working.
Friday, Robert Kubica will answer other questions.
