Austrian fans would like a Vettel-Räikkönen duo
This is what emerges from a survey conducted by an Austrian television.
Since his departure from Formula One at the end of the 2009 season, rumors of a possible return of Kimi Räikkönen to the paddocks regularly appear in the press.
Last week, the Austrian television channel Servus, owned by Red Bull, conducted a survey among its viewers to find out who they would like to see at Red Bull Racing alongside Sebastian Vettel. Mark Webber came in first by a narrow margin with 26.2% of the votes, while the Finnish driver came in second with 26.1% of the votes. Next are the two McLaren-Mercedes drivers. Lewis Hamilton, often mentioned as a potential move to the Austrian team, gathered 17.4%, while Jenson Button was favored by 16.4% of the voters.
This is nothing but a fantasy since Dieter Mateschitz stated this weekend that Mark Webber was well on his way to being renewed for next season. « Only the signature is missing, » indicated the energy drink boss.
For his part, Christian Horner acknowledges the qualities of the 2007 world champion but thinks F1 no longer interests him. « He’s a great driver but I think he’s put F1 behind him, » he stated in the columns of the Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat.
Kimi Räikkönen is currently engaged in the WRC championship where he is competing in his second season and also participated in a NASCAR race in early May.
