Blown diffusers: No agreement within FOTA
Ferrari and Sauber are against going backwards
The controversy surrounding the use of the blown diffuser is certainly not going to die down anytime soon. After multiple changes in positions, the International Automobile Federation ultimately passed the hot potato to the teams registered in the world championship, explaining that it would agree to revert to the regulations in force in Valencia if the teams unanimously agreed.
A meeting between the various officials took place this morning in Silverstone to try to find a solution to the impasse surrounding the blown diffuser, but without success. Out of the twelve teams, ten voted in favor of a rollback and two opposed this new regulatory change: Sauber and Ferrari.
The Scuderia had been very quiet on the subject since the beginning of the weekend. This silence had surprised some. It must be said that the position of the Italian team is not really surprising if you look at the results of the qualifying sessions, after which Alonso and Massa positioned themselves behind the always untouchable Red Bull Racing.
In any case, nothing changes for this afternoon’s race, as Red Bull has temporarily accepted the situation, but the debate around blown diffusers is far from over.
