Fernando Alonso talks about his choices and his contract with Ferrari
The Spanish driver from Scuderia says he is very satisfied with having signed with Ferrari almost two years ago now.
Alonso continues, at more or less regular intervals, to reiterate the love he has for the Maranello firm. Their relationship shows no signs of weakness, as the Spaniard recently admitted that he has no regrets about signing with Ferrari, even though a contract with Red Bull had also been offered to him.
To do this, we need to go back to the years 2008-2009, when Alonso was experiencing his second stint with Renault, the Austrian team then contacted the Asturian, who was lacking results. The latter, already in pre-contact with Scuderia Ferrari, then declined the generous offer from the energy drink company.
However, the RB5 (2009), RB6 (2010), and RB7 (2011), almost unbeatable and the product of the imaginative yet brilliant Newey, might leave a slight taste of bitterness in the Spaniard’s mouth. However, that is absolutely not the case, and he has clear ideas on the subject: « No, I do not regret refusing Red Bull’s offer. I might have won one or two more titles, but I wouldn’t be as happy as when I’m driving a Ferrari. I believe that for a driver, driving for Ferrari matters more than a championship. »
A feeling more or less similar to the one Jean Alesi experienced in 1991. The Frenchman had only won one race in red, in Canada in 1995. Today, Alonso has a much more competitive Ferrari, capable of offering him numerous victories. Now it’s all just a matter of time. A broad topic that time in Formula One!
