Red Bull might continue with Renault

We remember that last year, the Austrian team complained multiple times about the lack of power from the French engine. A switch to Mercedes engines was even strongly considered by the team’s management before they eventually renewed the contract with the French brand until the end of the 2012 season.

After eight Grand Prix races, the duo formed by the Austrian team and the French manufacturer overwhelmingly dominates the discipline. Furthermore, Renault’s future in F1 now seems assured following the agreement on the future engine regulations in the discipline. Therefore, there is no reason for Red Bull to want to look elsewhere after the 2012 season.

« We have always tried to be associated with a major manufacturer. Renault will remain our first choice for an agreement for 2013 and beyond, » says Dietrich Mateschitz, the big boss of the brand.

Asked by Autosport about the team’s future plans, Helmut Marko explains that « Extending our partnership was close until the regulation change. Regarding the 2014 V6 turbo, we have received positive news from Renault, but we need to discuss the details of the new situation. »

The idea of building its own engine, which emerged at the start of the season, no longer seems relevant for the world champion team. After all, you don’t change a winning team…
