Saturday: Williams falls short of the top 10
The Williams team aimed for the top 10 this afternoon. Rubens Barrichello finished 13th while Maldonado found himself stuck in the middle of the track in Q2. The Venezuelan will start 15th. Both drivers hope to climb the hierarchy during the race.
Rubens Barrichello – 13th:
We should have been in Q3 today. My goal for the race is to do the best I can and have fun. We are at the door of the points and there are overtaking opportunities here so we will see what we can do.
Pastor Maldonado – 15th:
«We had an issue with the car but we don’t know what it is about. The engineers are looking into it. It’s a bit strange because we hadn’t had any other problems during the weekend. The car seemed performant so I think we could aim for Q3. »
Sam Michael
« We conducted tests on the exhausts and the front wing during this morning’s practice. After analyzing the data, we decided to revert to the old exhausts for the qualifiers. »
In qualifying, Rubens’s fast lap on new tires seemed good for a place in the top 10, but he had an issue at the last corner. Then we had a problem with Pastor’s car. We’re looking into what might have caused it. We’ll push to score points tomorrow.
