Lotus VS Lotus: the appeal of Group Lotus is rejected

Last month, the English judiciary ruled on the dispute between Group Lotus and Tony Fernandes’s team. The High Court in London had determined that Group Lotus was indeed the sole holder of the name Lotus, but that Tony Fernandes could use the name Team Lotus in Formula One. A judgment that did not fully satisfy Group Lotus, which was therefore planning to appeal the decision.

Today we learn that Group Lotus’s appeal has been rejected, and there will indeed still be four single-seaters bearing the Lotus name on the starting grids of the Grand Prix.

This therefore puts a definitive end to the dispute between the two parties, something Tony Fernandes is obviously pleased about. A great day for Team Lotus. The appeal by Group Lotus was rejected by Judge Smith, and our legal fees will be reimbursed by Group Lotus, Fernandes stated on his Twitter account.
