Rosberg pleads for better safety in Monaco

After his off-track excursion this morning and Sergio Pérez’s serious accident during qualifying, Nico Rosberg is calling for changes to the chicane after the tunnel exit of the Monaco circuit.

The two drivers experienced the same type of mishap by losing their cars under braking. Rosberg admits he was lucky not to hit the protective wall as Sergio Pérez did.

« I was lucky this morning to avoid the safety barrier. This barrier has been there for a long time and a lot of things have happened there, » explains Rosberg.

« It might be time to reconsider that, because it would be easy to move it out of the way and back it up by 50 meters or something like that. I think it’s time to do something. »

The Mercedes GP driver also expressed concern about the bump at the tunnel exit. Monaco is a dangerous circuit. It’s because you arrive at high speed and you jump. When you start to brake, you jump in the braking zone, and that’s a bit worrying, emphasized Nico Rosberg, who is racing at home this weekend.

Rosberg did not see the footage of Sergio Pérez’s accident. « I haven’t seen them and I think it’s better if I don’t. »
