Friday: Data collection for Virgin pilots
The small team without a wind tunnel is still battling at the back of the grid but now seems a step ahead of HRT, yet far behind Team Lotus. It remains to be seen if the drivers will manage to overcome the 107% rule.
Jerome d’Ambrosio – 20th and 21st
I personally had a good day: it was really about analyzing the different components, especially with the new hard tires that were given to us here. I did some long stints with them at the end, and I think it was useful. I think it’s really important that we all sit down together and really look at what’s happening with Timo’s car, which has the new package. That’s really the next step for us, we need to combine my work with Timo’s and see what we can do with it for tomorrow.
Timo Glock – 21st and 22nd
« For the moment, we are focusing on gaining traction with the new exhaust systems, so we can’t do much in terms of tuning or balance work. Today has really been about data collection. It’s not easy, but I think we’ve made some progress and are starting to understand the philosophy of it. Now, we have a lot of work to do tonight before deciding whether we keep the system on the car for tomorrow and the race. »

« With the results of our recent straight-line test, we decided to split our program into two. On one side, Timo tested the new aero package and worked on engine mappings as well as the configuration of the new diffuser, and Jerome focused solely on the tires due to the new compound we have here in Spain. It seems there is less degradation than the old version despite worse weather. This should still make for an interesting race with a wide variety of strategies. Tonight, we will review our data and compare the two exhaust and diffuser systems, and check our components. We will decide on the specifications to put on the car. The new package certainly has good potential, it’s a shame Timo suffered from traffic when he had the soft tires, and therefore couldn’t show his true potential. »
