The top teams will meet to discuss the future of F1
The representatives of the four top teams, namely Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes, are expected to meet in Stuttgart next week to discuss the future of the top category.
The information has just been reported by the Daily Telegraph, according to which the main representatives of the previously mentioned teams will discuss the renewal of the upcoming Concorde Agreements, as well as any potential modifications to the upcoming 2013 regulations (notably regarding the engine) and the commercial rights of Formula One.
A number of important and anticipated themes have emerged in recent weeks, with the issue of the Concorde Agreements – which define the commercial relationships and rights between the FIA, teams, and FOM – set to expire at the end of next year.
Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes should also – finally – agree on the choice of the 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine mandated by the FIA starting in 2013, and jointly accept this new regulation.
It is now established that a consortium between Rupert Murdoch’s company, News Corporation, and EXOR, the Italian investment company owned by the Agnelli family, is seeking to acquire the rights of the premier category from CVC Capital Partners.
However, regardless of whether the owner of Formula One is new or not, the teams wish, starting from 2013, for a truly stable regulation, the return of “historic” circuits on the European continent, and much more affordable prices to attend the Grand Prix. It is undoubtedly these last three elements that will determine the future of this sport.
