Team Lotus: a blown diffuser for Spain?

Since the season resumed, Team Lotus has made significant progress with its car, but this year they don’t intend to do things halfway and get outpaced by their competitors.

Right now, the engineers of Team Lotus are hard at work on the blown diffuser, which could be installed on the T128 by the Spanish GP.

Heikki Kovalainen told Autosport: “There is good progress possible if we manage to make it work. We are working on it and it should be ready for the Spanish Grand Prix. The engineers have quantified a good improvement so I am excited. With a bit of luck, we will take full advantage of its potential and make it work properly.”

This system designed by Adrian Newey, technical director at Red Bull Racing, would allow Lotus to take a step forward on the starting grids.

« Now we need to break into the top 10. […] I think we’re not far from being with the mid-field teams. We still need good developments, preferably better than the competitors… »

In the meantime, Lotus still needs to address a few small technical issues in order to one day return to the highest levels.

«… and solve our reliability problems such as the power steering. When everything is in place, I think we can really start to fight with the teams ahead of us, which would be fantastic. » concluded Kovalainen.
