Pole position moved to the right at Sepang!
The decision comes from the pilots.
The pole position for the Malaysian Grand Prix has been moved to the right side of the track, following a request from the drivers before the event.
Traditionally, the pole position at Sepang is on the left side of the track, because it provides an advantage in the first corner, which is a tight right-hand turn.
Sources have revealed, however, that following discussions between the FIA and the drivers during the season setup regarding the impact of Pirelli tires on the track, the decision was made to change the side of the pole position.
Although the positions on the track are not as clearly defined as on other circuits, all this because the drivers drive on the left side of the track, a good number of drivers feel that if there is a lot of rubber on the track, then they will want to move more to the left side of the grid.
Race director Charlie Whiting agreed to make the change, which means pole-sitter Sebastian Vettel will start on the right side tomorrow.
Regarding the difference it will make, Vettel said: “It is very important here to be on the clean side, especially now that the side has changed, but we will see tomorrow.”
