The Ferraris were well ahead of the Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton, while Max Verstappen's program was interrupted late in the session by an engine problem on his Red Bull.

Stoffel Vandoorne will be penalized 15 places on the starting grid for changing his Honda power unit. The Belgian has already reached the limit of changes allowed by the regulations.
