Short and slow, the Hungaroring is, according to some, reminiscent of Monaco, minus the Casino and the view of the Mediterranean. In reality, the Hungarian circuit has its own identity and presents a multitude of challenges to the teams and drivers. In fact, they appreciate the city as much as the Magyar track.

After a practice session where drivers and teams tried to make up for the time lost on Friday afternoon due to rain, Mark Webber set the fastest time, narrowly beating Lewis Hamilton with 14 drivers within less than a second. The Ferraris were discreet, with little track time during this session, while at Mercedes, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg focused on groundwork in preparation for the race.

After a day of testing mostly held on a dry track before being disrupted by rain during Free Practice 2, Pirelli estimates that eight-tenths of a second separate the Soft and Medium tires available to teams this weekend. Due to the high chance of rain on Sunday, the Italian manufacturer believes that testing with the Cinturato rain tires was not in vain.

After tests with little fuel in the morning, the Mercedes drivers were tasked with running more fuel in the F1 W03, a program that was disrupted by rain and a Michael Schumacher off-track excursion which prematurely ended his tests. The Silver Arrows have yet to find the ideal balance and will work on it on Saturday.
