After starting from pole position, Pastor Maldonado secured the first victory of his career and the first for the Williams team since Brazil 2004 with Juan-Pablo Montoya. It is also the first victory for a Williams-Renault since the 1997 Luxembourg Grand Prix where Jacques Villeneuve triumphed.
