The former team of four-time Champcar champion Sébastien Bourdais announced today that they have found him a replacement for the new year 2008.
Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing had so far officially confirmed Graham Rahal. This morning, the team of the famous American actor officially announced, as the rumors claimed, the arrival of Justin Wilson.
Since 2005, the Australian has been racing for RuSport. With already 55 starts to his credit, the experienced 29-year-old driver has won five races and expressed his joy: « I am very happy and proud to join Newman / Haas / Lanigan Racing, » said Wilson.
« Since the time I’m in Champcar, the Newman team has been the most successful. With Bourdais leaving, the French champion has left me ‘very big shoes to fill.’ However, I’m not worried, I have big feet! » He jokes.
« Joking aside, I am very happy to be able to take over from the champions who came before me, and with all the team’s potential, there is no doubt that we will be serious contenders for the title in 2008. »
Carl Haas, one of the co-owners of the team, added: « Paul [Newman], Mike [Lanigan], and I are really thrilled with our lineup of Justin Wilson and Graham Rahal. The latter was really good last year for his first year with us, and he also has the potential to win races. »
