At the British Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz celebrated his 6th place in a somewhat original way: he started singing the song “Smooth Operator.” After his 5th place (his second top 5 finish in 2019) achieved in Hungary, he sang this song again. Finally, in Brazil, after his 4th place (which turned into a podium after Lewis Hamilton’s penalty), he once more burst into song.<\/p>\n
When asked where this celebration came from, the Spanish driver explained that it was a song that kept playing on the radio during the British GP weekend. “I started hearing it on the radio, and apparently, it’s quite a well-known song.”<\/p>\n
He added that he sang this song without knowing what “smooth operator” meant and that people on the team started to explain to him what a “smooth operator” was (someone very skillful) and he thought, well, maybe I can claim that and start spreading a little joke around me.<\/p>\n
Finally, the Iberian driver admitted to going to the song’s comments to read the remarks about him: \u00ab I read a few, and there are some really funny ones, for example “We are here thanks to Carlos,” and you see 1000 likes on it. \u00bb<\/p>\n
