Previously, the 11th position was strategic as it was the first from which the choice of tires was free for the start.<\/p>\n<p>This new rule has already had its preview last year, during the three sprint races. Not only were the Q2 sessions more competitive, but any driver making it into the top 10 could choose their tires for the following day. This is what benefited George Russell, starting 7th in the Silverstone sprint qualifying.<\/p>\n<p>For the upcoming season, this rule could be good news: starting strategies could be more varied.
