The 2022 season is supposed to be Fernando Alonso’s last in Formula 1. The two-time world champion returned to the starting grid last year after a two-year absence. The Spaniard signed a two-season contract with Alpine, which expires at the end of this year.<\/p>\n
A few weeks before the first Grand Prix of the season, the Oviedo native would not be against continuing the adventure. “For now, I feel very motivated, very happy, and I really enjoyed last year. I am now looking forward to facing the challenge that 2022 represents. So if I had to decide now, I would say yes,” he declared to RTL Germany. Alonso plans to make a decision about his future around the middle of 2022.<\/p>\n
Although the Spanish driver can decide for himself whether he wants to continue, it is not certain that it will be possible with the French team. Indeed, Alpine has signed a long-term contract with the French driver Esteban Ocon and also has under contract, within its Academy, the talented Australian driver Oscar Piastri, who is scheduled to become a regular in the team.<\/p>\n
