The Swiss company Geobrugg has proposed a new anti-debris protection system for circuits, which has just been approved by the FIA. This system will allow for spacing out the posts that hold the structure in place, which sometimes proved to be problematic for the spectators in the stands. As a result, the four-meter gap between each post will now be six meters, without reducing the effectiveness of the protection system.<\/p>\n

Indeed, the new spacing is beneficial in many areas. Firstly, in the event of a collision with the fence, the likelihood of impact with the pole is reduced for the drivers. Additionally, this new device requires fewer containers when transporting the equipment. Thirdly, this fence is simpler and quicker to install, as it does not require concrete foundations.<\/p>\n

The director of mechanical solutions at Geobrugg, Jochen Braunwarth, explained this innovation. \u00ab We were aiming for nothing less than a revolution in debris netting. Our goal was to have a massive impact on sustainability while improving the safety and ease of installation of the system. I believe we have achieved that and more. Circuits looking for a more sustainable solution and a better experience for spectators need not look any further. \u00bb Braunwarth explained.<\/p>\n

This new spacing was made possible thanks to the use of a sixteen millimeter diameter cable, combined with high-strength helical spirals to connect the cable to the mesh. This device has of course been tested before its implementation, notably with normal-sized cars launched at 150 km\/h onto the fence.<\/p>\n

With the approval of the FIA, this new mesh will be installed on Grade 1 circuits, which are considered the safest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
