Toyota, Peugeot, Glickenhaus, Alpine, Lamborghini, Cadillac, Acura, Porsche…and BMW! That will be the lineup for the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans, in the Hypercar class.<\/p>\n
The Bavarian manufacturer has chosen to focus solely on IMSA in 2023, alongside Acura and Porsche. The WEC will be part of the program in two years and will contribute to an amazing field for the overall victory.<\/p>\n
The CEO of BMW Motorsport, Franciscus van Meel, is looking forward to this new adventure. \u00ab I have been amazed by what could await us at Le Mans, in two years. I am particularly excited to compete for the overall classification with BMW, during my first term as CEO, for the first time in decades. \u00bb<\/p>\n
It should be recalled that BMW had not competed in the premier category since its victory at Le Mans in 1999. The wait, until 2024, will have been long, spanning 23 years.<\/p>\n
The announcement of the return to Le Mans accompanies the first test drive of the BMW LMDh prototype, on Monday, July 25th. The tests were carried out at the Varano de Melegari circuit in Italy. This is Dallara’s testing circuit, which supplies a chassis to the German manufacturer.<\/p>\n
The upcoming tests will take place in the month of August, in several European circuits. The BMW M Hybrid V8 will then head to the United States, specifically to prepare for its arrival in the IMSA.<\/p>\n
