A few days after the dream weekend in Brazil, the Mercedes team experiences a slight setback. At Interlagos, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished on the top two steps of the podium after starting from the first two positions on the grid.<\/p>\n
In Abu Dhabi, the Mercedes cars showed a good pace during free practice, but ended up further down the grid in the qualifying session dominated by Max Verstappen. Both drivers finished fifth and sixth.<\/p>\n
At the end of this session, Toto Wolff joked about the performances of the two Britons. “I just learned that today [November 19th] is World Toilet Day, so I think it was a day to flush down the toilet,” he joked on SkySports microphone.<\/p>\n
We stepped back and they took a small step forward. We opted for a high downforce and high drag concept in order to have a good car for tomorrow’s race, and it was just very, very slow in the straight lines. It didn’t work out.<\/p>\n
