One time, one escapes, the next time the other returns. After Lando Norris’s Canadian blunder, the Briton set things straight in Austria. The second in the world championship was perfect throughout this weekend at the Red Bull Ring.<\/p>\n

With his victory, he gained back seven valuable points against his teammate, the leader of the world championship. There are now fifteen points separating the two men. With his retirement in the first lap, Max Verstappen allowed the two Papayas to slip away and sees George Russell coming up in his rearview mirrors: the Mercedes driver is now only nine points behind.<\/p>\n

Small reaction at Ferrari too with the third and fourth places of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. The two men did not gain a place, but continue to widen the gap with Kimi Antonelli, who was forced to retire.<\/p>\n

The standout performances of the day are credited to Liam Lawson, who outperformed his teammate and scored important points for Racing Bulls: the New Zealander surpassed a struggling Pierre Gasly in the standings. It’s also worth noting Gabriel Bortoleto’s first four points in the world championship. The Brazilian secured an eighth place finish, earning four points.<\/p>\n

Fernando Alonso has caught up to his teammate with 14 points on the board: having had a clean slate before Spain, he has responded well since. Also noteworthy is the point for tenth place for Esteban Ocon, bringing his total to 23.<\/p>\n

Among the manufacturers<\/h2>\n

In the constructors’ standings, no surprise: McLaren continues to pull away. Mercedes and Ferrari have exchanged the two podium places. The reds have moved up to second. Sauber made a big leap with 26 points. For Alpine and their 11 points, the season already seems doomed unless there is a sudden turnaround.<\/p>\n
