The first race of the season in S\u00e3o Paulo last December offered a show that was both intense and chaotic. In Mexico, the scenario was quite different despite a few incidents that marked the 36 laps on the Hermanos Rodriguez circuit.<\/p>\n

With the two Porsches on the front row, it was clear that the Stuttgart manufacturer would be a key player in the race. For the second time in two races this season, reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein secured pole position. Leading for a large portion of the race, the driver who had finished upside down in Brazil ultimately had to give way at the end of the race to his teammate, and especially to Oliver Rowland.<\/p>\n

Starting from fourth place on the grid, the Nissan driver pulled out all the stops in the early laps to secure his fourth victory in Formula E. The Briton first got the better of Jean-Eric Vergne, who had started one position ahead of him. He then maintained his position in the top 5 throughout the race, being for several laps the only driver able to keep up with the pace of the Porsches.<\/p>\n

Rowland also knew how to take advantage of his Attack Mode and the two safety car interventions. While several opponents got caught by activating their power boost just before the race neutralizations, Norman Nato’s teammate always managed to activate them at the right time to stay in the leading group. With two impressive maneuvers, he overtook Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa to cross the line in first position.<\/p>\n

The safety car came out on track for the first time after a collision between Zane Maloney’s Lola ABT and David Beckmann’s Cupra Kiro. The second time was also due to a collision between Nico M\u00fcller’s Andretti and Mitch Evans’ Jaguar. While the American single-seater could continue to reach ninth place, the winner of the first Grand Prix of the season had to retire. It was a difficult day for the reigning champion team, with only one car finishing the race, that of Nick Cassidy, who managed only 14th place.<\/p>\n

In the championship, it’s Da Costa who is now in the lead. With two second places in two races, he is ahead of Rowland, Evans, and Wehrlein. Finishing 5th and 6th respectively in Mexico, the two DS Penske cars of Vergne and Maximilian G\u00fcnther showed strong performances, and the Franco-American team will have to be reckoned with for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

Next appointments on February 14 and 15, 2025, in Jeddah.<\/p>\n
