As three-quarters of the Formula 2 season’s races are already over, the drivers’ ranking is becoming more precise in this first part of the season. With 10 races completed out of the planned 14, the 22 competing drivers are determined to win the F2 World Championship title. Last year, it was Th\u00e9o Pourchaire who was crowned champion. Since the regulations forbid former champions from returning to the discipline, the French driver is therefore absent this year. The same goes for the other 3 drivers who followed him in the championship in the 2023 season. Consequently, Victor Martins, who finished fifth last year, is the highest-ranked driver still in competition.<\/p>\n

The descent into hell<\/h2>\n

For Victor Martins, this season is a real disappointment. Currently twelfth in the standings, the French driver is experiencing a difficult year with five retirements and many races without scoring points. Martins, who has been racing for ART Grand Prix since last year, has not managed to replicate his past performances. His drop in the standings is all the more striking as he was expected to be in the leading positions this year. With still a few races to go and a very small point difference, he can still hope to aim for the Top 10 by the end of the season.<\/p>\n

The French hope of this season<\/h2>\n

However, another French driver is shining in this mid-season: Isack Hadjar, a driver for Campos Racing. Currently leading the championship with 165 points, Hadjar has achieved several remarkable performances, winning both sprint races and main races. As a junior driver for Red Bull, the Frenchman is a talent considered to join Racing Bulls in Formula 1. While P\u00e9rez is on the brink of exclusion, Hadjar could well get a promotion and replace Tsunoda or Ricciardo if one of them were to move up to Red Bull. His skills in Formula 2 make him a serious contender for the title as he already has a 36-point lead.<\/p>\n

A phenomenonal Estonian rookie.<\/h2>\n

The 2024 season also saw the arrival of an exceptional Estonian rookie. Paul Aron, at Hitech Pulse-Eight, has shown remarkable performances at the beginning of the season. After holding the first place in the championship for a long period, Aron is now in third position with 124 points. His performance is all the more impressive as he only started in Formula 2 this year. Gabriel Bortoleto, at Invicta Racing, recently overtook him in Belgium, now occupying second place with 129 points.<\/p>\n

A difficult situation for Formula 1.<\/h2>\n

Oliver Bearman, already confirmed at Haas in Formula 1 for next year, and Kimi Andrea Antonelli, expected to join Mercedes in 2025, have not shone in Formula 2 this season. Although Antonelli won his first race two weeks ago, he is currently in seventh place in the championship. The situation is even more concerning for Bearman, who is in fifteenth position. Their team PREMA Racing is therefore seventh out of eleven teams competing for the constructor’s championship.<\/p>\n

With still four races to go, the fight for the Formula 2 championship is far from over. Hadjar, Aron, and the other drivers’ performances will be closely monitored as the season enters its final phase.<\/p>\n
