Always with the aim of avoiding the situation from last year at the Austrian Grand Prix, turns 9 and 10 are now adorned with a blue line that complements the previous measures taken earlier in the week.<\/p>\n

With over 1200 infractions during the race, the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix was a challenge for both the drivers and the race stewards who spent several hours reviewing the recordings. In order to streamline the process and reduce the time between the infraction and the penalty, the Red Bull Ring is turning to artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n

A technology already used in Barcelona<\/h2>\n

Some may have noticed, but the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit, where the grid raced last week, was already decorated with these blue lines at turns 5, 9, and 11. And although they didn’t seem to be very useful this time (no penalties were given for track limit violations in 2024), there is no doubt that they will be of great help for the Austrian Grand Prix.<\/p>\n

The installation of these thin blue lines helps to separate the track limits from the rumble strips, creating a more meaningful visual difference. Because these corners are equipped with numerous cameras, artificial intelligence will be able to review the images and determine whether a car has exceeded the limits or not.<\/p>\n

However, each system has its limits: race stewards will still have to independently verify the most disputed cases.<\/p>\n

Artificial intelligence will allow the race commissioners to focus on other aspects of the race. Nevertheless, the FIA confirms the presence of five operators to verify its proper functioning during the Grand Prix.
