A dramatic turn of events at Monza: Pierre-Yves Corthals, 2nd and 3rd in the Independents races, has been excluded for non-compliance with technical regulations during Sunday’s races for the penultimate stage of the championship.<\/p>\n

Things turned sour for Pierre-Yves Corthals after his 2nd and 3rd places in the Independents category at Monza. The Belgian driver was excluded from the meeting following a report from the FIA technical delegate stating that “the car was not equipped with the energy absorption device inside the front and rear doors [driver’s side] and the left rear door was not fully in compliance with the \u2018homologation & hellip’ documents.”<\/p>\n

As a result, the victory in the 2nd race went to Roberto Colciago. Stefano d’Aste now leads the Trophy with margins of 8 and 10 points, respectively over Corthals and Luca Rangoni.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Corthals was demoted by 10 positions on the starting grid for Race 2 in Macau for causing an avoidable collision with J\u00f6rg M\u00fcller during the second race.<\/p>\n

It is important to remember that in WTCC, about twenty drivers compete for two championships at once. The trophy for independents, and the world championship for the official drivers. The categories obviously race together for more spectacle.<\/p>\n
