S\u00e9bastien Bourdais has real hopes of securing pole position this afternoon for his final Champ Car race in Mexico. The Frenchman indeed set the fastest time this morning during the practice sessions, also setting the lap record with a car of this type.<\/p>\n
The Newman\/Haas\/Lanigan driver completed a perfect lap in 1:24.815, 67 thousandths ahead of N\u00e9el Jani. Robert Doornbos and Justin Wilson, who are competing this weekend for the 2007 world vice-champion spot, are respectively 3rd and 4th in this pre-qualifying session.<\/p>\n
Will Power completes the top 5 with only 257 thousandths behind Bourdais. The gaps are therefore very small among the top 5, which is in contrast very different for the following positions since the 6th – Paul Tracy – is already more than 1 second behind.<\/p>\n
Simon Pagenaud is 9th, the other Frenchman, Nelson Philippe, is 13th with the only Conquest Racing.<\/p>\n
The session, like yesterday, was particularly calm, despite some issues for the only woman on the track, Katerine Legge, who experienced a “Boost” problem and therefore is placed over 3 seconds off the best time.<\/p>\n
