Andy Priaulx started in pole position for this final race of the 2007 WTCC season, on the streets of Macau, and the Englishman secured a fine victory. With no competition in the championship, following Yvan Muller’s retirement in the first race, the BMW driver took the opportunity to win a second consecutive champion title.<\/p>\n
The BMW Team UK driver led the last race of the season from start to finish to claim his 3rd consecutive title. BMW has double reason to celebrate this achievement as the Munich-based firm also won the Constructors’ title for the 3rd year in a row.<\/p>\n
Yvan Muller and Augusto Farfus did not start the race because their cars were not repairable after issues in Race 1 (faulty fuel pump for Muller, collision with Tarquini for Farfus).<\/p>\n
James Thompson had a fantastic drive, moving up from 4th to 2nd place, notably passing Nicola Larini at “Lisbon.” In the same corner, Gabriele Tarquini, Rob Huff, and Alessandro Zanardi encountered some issues. Zanardi and Huff could not continue, while Tarquini finished 14th.<\/p>\n
In the next two laps, Thompson was very close to Priaulx, and Larini not far behind. Lap 4 saw Priaulx pull away as Larini and Thompson battled. On lap 7, Larini made a great maneuver at the exit of “Mandarin” and displaced Thompson from his 3rd place.<\/p>\n
In the final laps, Larini closed the gap with Priaulx but not enough to attempt an attack, while Thompson vigorously defended his 3rd position against Tiago Monteiro, which meant a podium in the championship.<\/p>\n
The battle for points saw J\u00f6rg M\u00fcller and Jordi Gen\u00e9 fall back, allowing Tom Coronel to take 5th place, finishing ahead of Rickard Rydell, F\u00e9lix Porteiro, Colin Turkington, and Fredrik Ekblom, who scored the last available point as Turkington was not eligible.<\/p>\n
The Independents’ race was won by Luca Rangoni after a fierce battle with Stefano d’Aste and Carl Rosenblad. His victory wasn’t enough as D’Aste won the Trophy by two points.<\/p>\n
