The first tests of the 2008 season took place in Mugello, Italy, providing the opportunity to see the Audi and Mercedes go head-to-head for the first time.<\/p>\n
Markus Winkelhock finished this last testing session on a high note by completing the fastest lap of these three days of testing.<\/p>\n
The German from Audi is closely followed by two Mercedes drivers, Jamie Green and Paul di Resta. Their best times show a respective deficit of 0.166 and 0.854 seconds on the best time.<\/p>\n
Mattias Ekstr\u00f6m, the reigning world champion, was in first place for a good part of the day but ultimately finished in sixth place, just behind Alexandre Premat and Gary Paffett.<\/p>\n
Ralf Schumacher was the fastest in a 2007 Mercedes C-Class with a time of 1:43.506.<\/p>\n
The next official testing session takes place in Oschersleben, Germany, next April, a few days before the start of the season.<\/p>\n
