For this first day of testing (Warm-up) at Hockenheim, Audi didn’t achieve a flawless performance despite the presence of its new cars. Nonetheless, the results remain convincing.<\/p>\n

The four 2008 version cars came out on top after the first testing session that was dry. In the afternoon, despite a relatively high level of performance, it was Paul di Resta in a Mercedes who set the fastest time before the conditions deteriorated. Once the rain started to fall, Audi was unable to regain the upper hand.<\/p>\n

But the head of Audi Sport, Wolfgang Ullrich, believes that no judgment can be made before qualifying to know which team will be the fastest this weekend.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Things have gone well so far, \u00bb he commented.<\/p>\n

\u00ab But everyone is concerned with managing their own schedule. \u00bb<\/p>\n

\u00ab It is pointless to try making comparisons with Mercedes, only during the qualifiers will we truly see the speeds of each. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Martin Tomczyk, who was the fastest during the first testing session in dry conditions, believes that Mercedes could be held back until the first competitive session of the year.<\/p>\n

“We had no problems this Friday, but we must not deceive ourselves,” the German said.<\/p>\n

Mercedes will probably have a few cards to play during the qualifications. But for our part, we know where we stand and how fast our cars can go. It was a very fruitful day for the team.<\/p>\n
