With his Citroen C4 WRC, Conrad Rautenbach still hopes to score points in the next round of the World Rally Championship, in Jordan. The African driver, only 23 years old, became the first Zimbabwean to score points in the WRC last month in Argentina. He does not intend to stop while on such a good path.<\/p>\n
Proof of good form, Rautenbach and his British co-driver, David Senior, received the Abu Dhabi Spirit of the Rally trophy during this event [see last week’s information]. Before the first Jordan Rally, Rautenbach – the reigning African champion – announced that he could not wait to get back in his C4 WRC for the third time.<\/p>\n
\u00ab It took me a little time to calm down after Argentina. Looking back, it seems crazy. But that rally is over. It’s history, and I need to build on that experience to go further, starting in Jordan \u00bb, announces Rautenbach. \u00ab I’ve been very busy since my fourth position. I trained every day and did sauna sessions to prepare for the Jordanian heat. \u00bb<\/p>\n
\u00ab Since I returned to Europe, I’ve been counting the days. Every minute spent in the Citro\u00ebn C4 WRC is increasingly enjoyable. I am more confident and I better understand what it takes to be on the edge. It is very different from the Xsara WRC that I was driving previously. When I think back to the Rally Great Britain last year, I was pushing my driving to go fast. You can’t do that with this car. \u00bb<\/p>\n
\u00ab The C4 is easier to drive than the Xsara, but the biggest lesson I learned in Argentina is that to drive faster, you have to be able to drive slower. Of course, it makes no sense, but you have to be relaxed. Trying to force things leads to disaster. \u00bb<\/p>\n
I still have a lot to learn about the C4. That is one of the reasons why I am very excited before Jordan. And the best way to learn would be to have consistent conditions with a good level of grip. That’s what we should have in Jordan… but I remember we were promised sunshine in Argentina! I am currently eighth in the championship, starting the rally with the best drivers is fantastic. That’s where I want to be.<\/p>\n
