It was a ridiculous scene that we witnessed at the end of the F2 qualifying session this Friday. With only a few seconds left on the clock, the drivers slowed down before starting their final lap. But this excessively low speed created a bottleneck and forced the drivers to start side by side, in a pack. In this game, almost nobody was able to improve and Th\u00e9o Pourchaire took pole position<\/a>.<\/p>\n

To avoid this kind of situation, the FIA has decided to take a strong measure. In qualifying this Saturday afternoon, drivers will have to complete all their laps with a maximum time of 1:41.000. In practice, this includes slow laps to warm up or cool down the tires, as well as laps entering and exiting the pits. The goal of the FIA is to force drivers not to go slow on a track where high speed can lead to serious accidents.<\/p>\n

To give you an idea, in practice sessions, the drivers were lapping in 1:21, which is twenty seconds faster than the expected maximum time. However, on slower laps, they would quickly tend to exceed this limit and unnecessarily incur penalties.<\/p>\n
