Mark Webber was the fastest of the ten drivers present today at Jerez, in southern Spain, for the third day of private testing this week. The Red Bull driver leads the engine manufacturer, Renault, with Nelson Piquet and Kimi R\u00e4ikk\u00f6nen in a rather “classic” Ferrari F2008.<\/p>\n

The top two in this ranking set their best times on slick tires. Webber took the first place from Piquet at the very end of the session. The latter was given a warning in his ninth lap by grazing the pit wall. The Brazilian scraped aerodynamic elements and had to stop his Renault R28 at the next corner.<\/p>\n

Kimi R\u00e4ikk\u00f6nen takes third position after trying the new type \u00ab shark fin engine cover. However, he finished the session without this new element to better test it again tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Vitantonio Liuzzi secures a strong performance in the Force India with a fourth place. His setup played to his advantage with the new Bridgestone ‘type d’ tires. Nevertheless, he caused the first red flag of the day by cutting a chicane.<\/p>\n

The Italian is ahead of McLaren test driver Pedro de La Rosa and Frenchman S\u00e9bastien Bourdais at the wheel of the Toro Rosso, leading the first two days of testing. Bourdais had classic tires today.<\/p>\n

Nakajima is seventh in the Williams. He completed 98 laps without too many mechanical issues and establishes himself as the most enduring of the day.<\/p>\n

Glock caused one of the other three red flags of the day by stopping at the end of the session due to a power supply issue on his Toyota. It was the first time since his accident last Sunday that he got back into a single-seater. He is eighth.<\/p>\n

Barrichello is ninth on the RA108. He was also testing the shark fin engine cover type \u00ab but had to leave his post prematurely due to an engine problem.<\/p>\n

The Brazilian is ahead of Heidfeld’s BMW Sauber, which was testing aerodynamic elements. 2009 without the KERS system.<\/p>\n

Most of the teams are expected tomorrow for a fourth and final day of testing on the 4.423-kilometer-long Spanish track.<\/p>\n
