McLaren-Mercedes is currently on an upward trend, with its second driver, Heikki Kovalainen, gaining confidence. And for good reason, the Finnish driver will begin the European Grand Prix on a victory. He is the winner of the last race which took place in Hungary three weeks ago.<\/p>\n
But in the standings, it’s indeed Lewis Hamilton who is the leader. The Briton has unwavering confidence.<\/p>\n
Lewis Hamilton – Racing Driver<\/b><\/p>\n
\u00ab To date, this 2008 season does not resemble 2007 at all. This year, many drivers have good results. The most important thing for us is to have a consistent single-seater that takes us to the end of the season. \u00bb<\/p>\n
\u00ab Going to a new circuit doesn’t really disrupt my preparations. Of course, preparation at McLaren’s technology center was mandatory before the race, but our main focus will, as always, be the three practice sessions before qualifying. I will work closely with my engineers to ensure we start the weekend on a good footing. I enjoy driving on new tracks and I’m looking forward to driving my car on Friday morning. \u00bb<\/p>\n
The race in Hungary showed how unpredictable F1 is. I am still in a good position to win the world championship, which remains my goal. We are still confident about our chances, we know our competitors will be strong but we have worked tirelessly to improve the car. The most important thing is to always finish in the points.<\/p>\n
Heikki Kovalainen – Racing Driver:<\/b><\/p>\n
\u00ab My victory in Hungary did not change the course of things: I continue to believe that I can still improve and learn more about the team and the car. My goal for the last part of the season is to win new races and be regularly at the front of the grid. This is something I have been able to achieve from time to time during the first half of the year, but I feel more confident now. \u00bb<\/p>\n
\u00ab This circuit seems quite fast whereas usually urban tracks are quite slow with medium-speed turns and very few straight lines, but here it’s almost the opposite. It’s too early to say if there will be overtaking opportunities but I believe there are two hairpins where it’s possible. \u00bb<\/p>\n

\u00ab When setting up the single-seater, we must keep in mind that, like in Monaco, the track will be dusty on the opening day of testing. Our simulations suggest using a similar level of grip as that of Hockenheim, subject to changes. It is also important to be aware of the proximity of obstacles. Obviously, we will have more spare parts, hoping we won’t need to use them! \u00bb<\/p>\n
\u00ab From Friday onwards, we will have to pay special attention to both the drivers’ comments and the data obtained from the car. \u00bb<\/p>\n
\u00ab Everything we have seen so far from the city and the organization of this event makes me think it will be a great success.
