Felipe Massa picked up where he left off in Valencia to set the fastest time on this first day of testing at the Monza circuit.<\/p>\n

Brazil has started working on the aero package and the single-seater configuration for long distances in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix. He expressed satisfaction with finishing on top with a best lap of 1:23.428.<\/p>\n

Heikki Kovalainen’s McLaren is in second place with only an 11-millisecond gap. Nico Rosberg’s Williams is in third position with a similarly small gap to the Finn.<\/p>\n

Sebastian Vettel continues to impress with his Toro Rosso, securing the fourth fastest time of the day ahead of Rubens Barrichello and his Honda, which shows encouraging signs in fifth place.<\/p>\n

Mark Webber is in sixth place for Red Bull.<\/p>\n

Nick Heidfeld at the wheel of his F1.08 for these first two days conducted mechanical tests in a configuration reserved for Spa and Monza, as well as suspension and aerodynamic tests.<\/p>\n

Vitantonio Liuzzi is back in a race seat for Force India. He completes 99 laps and sets a time eight-tenths slower than Massa’s.<\/p>\n

Jarno Trulli and Nelson Piquet bring up the rear for Toyota and Renault.<\/p>\n
