After this penultimate race of the 2008 season where no surprises occurred, the current driver and constructor standings do not allow for a winner to be determined. Everything will therefore be decided in two weeks in Brazil, just like last year. [Standings]<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

In the drivers’ championship, there are two position changes. Hamilton remains the leader and now has a 7-point lead over Massa in 2nd place (94 to 87). A 6th place finish at Interlagos would be enough for him to claim the crown. Kubica can no longer win the title; he remains 3rd with 75 points. The Pole sees R\u00e4ikk\u00f6nen catching up, now just 6 points behind (69 points).<\/p>\n

Heidfeld maintains his 5th place with 4 new points earned in China. The change comes with his pursuers, as Alonso’s good performances in the last three Grand Prix allow him to reach the 6th place previously held by Kovalainen. The Finn suffered a puncture in Shanghai while the Spaniard scores 5 points. The latter now has 53 points compared to Hamilton’s teammate’s 51.<\/p>\n

Trulli and Vettel are still tied in points with 30 each. The battle for 10th place will be fierce in Brazil since Glock has 22 points (2 more thanks to his recent 7th place), Webber 21, and Piquet 19, who is back in the points following the Chinese race.<\/p>\n

Rosberg remains stuck in 13th position with 17 points. Further down, we find Barrichello in 14th, Nakajima in 15th, Coulthard in 16th, Bourdais in 17th, who should have scored points, and Button in 18th. The two Force India drivers have only one race left to save their honor.<\/p>\n

In the constructors’ standings, there are no changes to report, but the gaps are the most significant at this stage of the season. Ferrari is nearing a new title and has an 11-point lead over McLaren (156 to 145). BMW-Sauber can no longer catch up as the German team is 21 points behind the Scuderia.<\/p>\n

Renault will indeed finish the 2008 season in 4th place with 72 points for the moment, while Toyota remains in 5th, trailing by 20 points (52 points). Toro Rosso will likely end the year in 6th place, while Red Bull is 7th and Williams 8th with 34, 29, and 26 points respectively. Honda still has 14, and Force India has none.<\/p>\n
