It is in a press release that we learn the news: Ferrari could leave F1 if the engine standardization project is approved.<\/p>\n

Let’s revisit this project: On October 17, the FIA launched a call for tenders that runs until November 7, aimed at finding a supplier for standard transmissions and engines. These engines could be used as early as 2010. Teams would therefore be required to purchase their parts from this supplier or adhere to a very specific set of requirements if they wish to manufacture them themselves. The project is part of an overall plan to reduce F1 costs.<\/p>\n

Ferrari speaks on the matter: \u00ab This could harm F1, as its main reason for existence is the competition between the technological advancements of each manufacturer which is essential. It is thanks to this that Ferrari has been part of the Formula 1 Championship since 1950. If this project becomes obsolete, we reserve the right, after consulting with our partners, to consider the possibility of staying in the competition. \u00bb<\/p>\n

The great financier Bernie Ecclestone does not understand this reaction: \u00ab I don’t see why they would leave F1. We would make them realize significant savings. Why leave when they would be saving money? All the technical details would still be there, the manufacturers could still show off their respective talents.
