The FIA is preparing to unveil a new series of measures aimed at further drastically reducing costs. The goal is to achieve an operating budget of only 50 million Euros per year per team starting from 2010, in order to ensure the manufacturers’ commitment to the sport.<\/p>\n

As the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) and the FIA have recently agreed on a series of cost-reduction measures, the F1 governing bodies have sent a letter to team principals emphasizing the need to take further actions to avoid additional withdrawals following Honda’s exit.<\/p>\n

According to the Financial Times dated February 4, the FIA is targeting technical developments in competition, such as energy recovery systems, and another area described as non-competitive, which will have the effect of expanding the range of standardized parts like gearboxes, wheels, braking systems, and suspensions.<\/p>\n

Despite these measures, considered restrictive by some major teams, the FIA wants to maintain a certain standard where a Grand Prix will always be considered a spectacle.<\/p>\n

However, this plan also calls on manufacturers to develop reasonably priced technologies for customer teams.<\/p>\n

The FIA must take these measures in light of the global economic situation and because Honda currently has no official buyer.<\/p>\n

In December, the FIA announced a number of cost-reduction measures for the 2009 season that were agreed upon with FOTA. These include a total ban on in-season testing, significant reductions in aerodynamic development, and a limit of eight engines per car for an entire season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
