Ken Anderson expects the first USF1-made Formula 1 car to be manufactured in the fall and ready to hit the track for the first time during the upcoming winter testing in January 2010.<\/p>\n
The former technical director of Ligier and Onyx states that the team’s timeline for entering F1 will be clear in the coming months, but he is convinced of one thing: Starting on the track in January is perfect to be ready in March 2010 with the start of the championship.<\/p>\n
We will have a nearly operational car in September\/October for the first static tests. There are still things to be determined at the moment, such as our engine supplier and the contract start date.<\/p>\n
\u00ab Many points will be settled in four to six weeks. But the rule as it stands today is that you are not allowed to run a car between the last race of the season and January 1st. That is why the car will be on track in January next year. There will still be nearly three months before the first race anyway, \u00bb explained Anderson.<\/p>\n
The sporting director of the team, Peter Windsor, clearly outlined the objectives for the first two seasons.<\/p>\n
\u00ab A real success in 2010 would first be to prove that an F1 car can be designed and manufactured in the United States, thus breaking the European hegemony. By that, I mean producing two reliable cars that finish the races and perhaps achieving a result in the first year, \u00bb added Windsor.<\/p>\n
\u00ab During the second year, I think the team will start to be well-oiled, so a goal of top 8 or 10 for each race. \u00bb<\/p>\n
He also confirmed that USF1 will have a second base in Europe.<\/p>\n
\u00ab We will have a European base, mainly for trucks, motorhomes, equipment, and operations during testing. It is not a very large logistics operation, so this base could be located anywhere. \u00bb<\/p>\n
