The USF1 team, which wishes to be on the grid in 2010, has received a request from Formula One Management (FOM) to change its name.<\/p>\n
The team, led by Ken Anderson and Peter Windsor, received the request from Bernie Ecclestone’s company after their official presentation at SpeedTV in Charlotte, North Carolina, just two weeks ago.<\/p>\n
From now on, the team will be called ‘USGPE’ (‘US Grand Prix Engineering’).<\/p>\n
The FOM, whose logo is found in the corner of all F1 television broadcasts, claims the use of the abbreviation ‘F1’ in the name of an American team and insists it should solely remain the official Formula 1 logo.<\/p>\n
Renault, Toyota, and even Force India use ‘F1’ in their names because the FOM accepts it if the word ‘team’ follows the logo.<\/p>\n
Williams, on the other hand, uses the title ‘Williams F1’ as the official trade name. The team is the exception, notably due to its status as a private team.<\/p>\n
Following a statement from the FOM last year, Force India made slight modifications to its logo. The ‘FI’ was deemed too similar to ‘F1’, and a dot was added to the ‘i’.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
