On this Sunday, May 24, the 6th round of the 2009 championship took place with the Monaco Grand Prix under a brilliant azure sky. The Brawn GP drivers did the essential work yesterday in qualifying, securing 1st and 3rd positions (Jenson Button and then Rubens Barrichello). Therefore, it is only logical to find them at the forefront on this race day. Even better, they achieve a new double victory. Ferrari did not suffer from reliability issues as Kimi R\u00e4ikk\u00f6nen and Felipe Massa finished 3rd and 4th. Mark Webber on Red Bull followed, then Nico Rosberg with Williams, who is finally rewarded for his efforts in practice. Fernando Alonso is 7th while Frenchman S\u00e9bastien Bourdais scores a point.<\/p>\n

In the driver standings, Button and Barrichello are increasingly dominating the championship even though the gap between them continues to widen. They now have 51 and 35 points. It is an especially good performance given that Sebastian Vettel, still 3rd, scores no points with his retirement. His teammate Webber is therefore getting closer with 4 new points (23 against 19.5 points).<\/p>\n
For the past two races, Toyota has been losing momentum, with Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock currently holding their 5th and 6th positions without scoring any points on the streets of the Principality. The German, with 12 points, sees Fernando Alonso closing in at 1 point behind (11 in total). Lewis Hamilton (-1 position) and Kimi R\u00e4ikk\u00f6nen (+5 positions) are tied in 8th place (9 points) while Felipe Massa is in 10th (8 points with a gain of two positions).<\/p>\n
Rosberg scores 3 points to position himself in 11th place but loses a spot to the Ferrari drivers. Nick Heidfeld (-3 places) and Heikki Kovalainen (-2 places) remain stuck with 6 and 4 units. Bourdais comes within one point of his teammate Buemi, who loses two places (3 and 2 units respectively). Five drivers have still not scored a point. The most worrying situation concerns Kubica, who was fighting for the title last year. Piquet, Nakajima, and the two Force India drivers are also without points.<\/p>\n
In the constructors’ standings, Brawn GP flies towards the title with 18 new points, now totaling 86. Red Bull limits the damage thanks to Webber and pulls away from Toyota (respectively 2nd and 3rd with 42.5 and 26.5 points). Ferrari (+2 places) becomes the 4th force on the grid with 17 units ahead of McLaren (13 points) and Renault (11 points), each losing one place.<\/p>\n
Williams moves up one spot to 6th position for a total of 7.5 points. BMW (-2 places) drops to 8th position and sees Toro Rosso come within one point (6 against 5 points). Force India remains at zero.<\/p>\n
