The Canadian-origin French newspaper La Presse<\/i> reported Monday that F1’s chief financier, Bernie Ecclestone, invited a businessman from the Quebec city of Montreal and a London financier to explore the possibility of reintroducing the Canadian Grand Prix to the 2010 calendar.<\/p>\n
The three meetings held so far have taken place in London at Ecclestone’s offices, and it seems that the businessman, who prefers to remain anonymous for now, is not a representative of the Canadian Commission or the Quebec government. He is not speaking on behalf of the city of Montreal either.<\/p>\n
According to the newspaper, there is a strong possibility that Ecclestone will become the next promoter of the Canadian Grand Prix.<\/p>\n
In the current economic context, the Briton might agree to lower his demands in order to revive Formula 1 on the North American continent. Car manufacturers and sponsors are reportedly putting pressure on him to bring it back.<\/p>\n
The stands at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve have almost never been empty, unlike some venues in other countries.<\/p>\n
