The president of the FIA, Max Mosley, states that there will be no extension of the deadline for Formula 1 teams to lift the conditions attached to their entries. With 24 hours remaining before the resolution, the Briton suggested that a compromise could be reached as desired by FOTA.<\/p>\n
Following the sending of a letter from FOTA to Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone, considered as a final effort to avoid the withdrawal of teams from the sport, the FIA has defined the terms of a possible agreement.<\/p>\n
The deadline therefore remains Friday, June 19, and not July 1 as desired by FOTA, and the standard engine supplier remains Cosworth. However, the FIA admits that it would be willing to discuss changes in governance and possible revisions to the cost cap.<\/p>\n
In this new letter from Mosley, he states that there is no chance a revised Concorde agreement will be finalized before Friday. The 1998 version will have to be used as an interim measure.<\/p>\n
\u00ab If we start to modify the governance provisions of the 1998 Concorde Agreement, a long discussion will begin. There is no time at the moment for the sole reason that we must respond to the other candidate teams for 2010 by tomorrow at the latest. \u00bb<\/p>\n
He added: \u00ab Our proposal is therefore that all parties accept the governance provisions of 1998. We can then negotiate a new Concorde 2009 agreement that will simultaneously protect the 1998 agreement. \u00bb<\/p>\n
\u00ab After all, we have been living with it for ten years, a few more weeks or months shouldn’t be a problem. \u00bb<\/p>\n
Regarding FOTA’s suggestions on appointing independent accountants to oversee compliance with a budget cap, Mosley believes that this idea has already been suggested to the Board.<\/p>\n
Moreover, he wants the teams to accept for now the limit of 40 million Pounds, before continuing discussions that will lead to changes in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
\u00ab One of the fundamental problems with the FOTA’s proposal was the absence of a specific figure. Teams need to know what the constraints are. \u00bb<\/p>\n
Mosley confirmed that there will be no two-tier regulation in 2010, one of FOTA’s greatest fears. Finally, between today and tomorrow, the outcome will occur in this way: \u00ab We will soon send a letter to each team.
