Lewis Hamilton will have a special helmet to mark his return to Silverstone, just one year after winning the British Grand Prix, a home race for the Englishman.<\/p>\n
Last July, the potential world champion left all competition behind on a wet track. As proof, he finished more than a minute ahead of Nick Heidfeld, who came second in the race.<\/p>\n
This weekend, the young 24-year-old Briton does not have a competitive McLaren to hope for victory, but this special helmet is aimed at his fans who have supported him throughout the 2008 season. A kind of thank you for their support last year.<\/p>\n
The design has been modified on the top of the helmet, but the national flag, the Union Jack or union flag, is present more at the bottom.<\/p>\n
Apart from the dazzling diamond helmet in Monaco, this is the first time Hamilton has changed his traditional yellow helmet since his debut in 2007.<\/p>\n
\u00ab I wanted to choose a specific helmet design that not only shows that I am a British athlete, but more importantly, I wanted it to reflect all the support I receive from fans at Silverstone, \u00bb he stated.<\/p>\n
Hamilton is also concerned because if the plans for Donington Park, host of the 2010 British Grand Prix, turn out to be a failure, this Sunday could indeed be the last Formula 1 race in the country.<\/p>\n
