The Renault F1 Team was present today at the Nurburgring for the first day of the German Grand Prix.<\/p>\n
With Nelson Piquet and Fernando Alonso, the French team analyzed its updates, mainly aerodynamic, and tested the different tire components offered by Bridgestone.<\/p>\n
After just under twenty laps in three hours, the team is pleased with the progress made during the three-week break, but Alonso complains about the lack of laps completed.<\/p>\n
Fernando Alonso – 10th and 8th:<\/b><\/p>\n
\u00ab We experienced more problems than we would have liked today, and we also lost track time due to the rain. We would have liked to make more changes to the car and complete a few more laps, but we didn’t have enough time. It’s difficult to judge our level of competitiveness because it’s Friday and we still need to analyze the data collected today. We have improved the car’s behavior, that’s for sure, but it seems our competitors have also made a step forward. \u00bb<\/p>\n
Nelson Piquet – 15th and 10th:<\/b><\/p>\n
The track was quite slippery at the beginning of each session and the rain didn’t help. However, we went through most of our technical program, evaluating the tires and new parts available to us. We now have to analyze the information gathered because my program was different from Fernando [Alonso]’s. The goal was for the team to accumulate as much data as possible. It seems we are more competitive than at Silverstone, but it’s always very difficult to say on a Friday.<\/p>\n
Pat Symonds – Executive Director of Engineering:<\/b><\/p>\n
The day was rather good, even though we had to constantly monitor the weather conditions. We brought several aerodynamic innovations this weekend, and it was important to evaluate them. Tonight, we are satisfied with their performance. The softest tire performs better than expected, while the hardest compound is difficult to warm up in today’s cold conditions. That said, it’s the same for everyone. From a general standpoint, therefore, we are satisfied with the progress made.<\/p>\n
