The Spanish Motorsport Federation described the penalty imposed on the Renault team at the Hungarian Grand Prix as unusual and disproportionate.<\/p>\n
The French team was suspended by the FIA after the European Grand Prix because it let Fernando Alonso leave the pit with a wheel nut improperly tightened. The affected wheel detached from the car a few hundred meters further. It is for this dangerous situation that the team was punished. The track marshals also criticized Renault for not taking any measures to stop the vehicle since its departure from the pits.<\/p>\n
Renault has appealed this decision, but the verdict will not be known before at least August 18, which is only three days before the start of the Valencia tests. This means it is likely that the team will travel to Spain not knowing whether it will be accepted on the track or not.<\/p>\n
The Spanish Federation revealed on Monday that it had written to the FIA’s International Court of Appeal to present its viewpoint on this decision, which resembles a disproportionate and unusual sanction and will directly harm the drivers (Fernando Alonso in particular), the European Grand Prix, promoters, GP sponsor companies and drivers, citizens, and the city of Valencia.<\/p>\n
