What a superb victory for Rubens Barrichello for Brawn GP, his first since 2004. He earned ten well-deserved points for this European Grand Prix of Valencia. It’s Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) who probably helped him a little, with the Brit finishing second and Kimi R\u00e4ikk\u00f6nen on Ferrari in third. Heikki Kovalainen in the second McLaren is 4th, allowing the Woking team to have a good Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg in his FW31 loses a place from his usual 4th position, finishing 5th ahead of Fernando Alonso for Renault. Jenson Button with the second BGP001 is 7th and earns two points. Finally, Robert Kubica, without drawing much attention, is 8th and thus scores points for the second time this season. Red Bull doesn’t score any points in Spain.<\/p>\n

In the driver standings, Button is, of course, still the undisputed leader of this championship and has a 22-point lead over his closest rival. This new rival is none other than his teammate, following his superb victory. Barrichello now has 54 points, overtaking both Red Bull drivers. Mark Webber is in 3rd and Sebastian Vettel in 4th with 51.5 and 47 points, respectively. Rosberg, Hamilton, and R\u00e4ikk\u00f6nen are the strong performers at the moment and are in 5th, 6th, and 7th place, respectively. The Brit and the Finn each move up two spots with the absence of Felipe Massa (9th, -2 places) and Jarno Trulli dropping to 8th place (-2 places).<\/p>\n
Alonso joins Timo Glock in 10th position with 16 points both. The German has been losing momentum since mid-season. Kovalainen (12th) is just behind with 14 points. Nick Heidfeld remains 13th while his teammate Kubica manages to catch up with S\u00e9bastien Buemi in 14th place with 3 points. S\u00e9bastien Bourdais, even in his absence, retains his two points.<\/p>\n
In the constructors’ standings, Brawn GP, still in 1st place, makes a very good move by extending a 27.5-point lead over Red Bull, which stalled this weekend (126 against 98.5 points). Ferrari and McLaren will fight for 3rd place at the end of the year. For the moment, the advantage goes to the 3rd place Scuderia, which has 46 points. However, McLaren now places both its drivers in the points and is only 5 points behind. Toyota (-1 place) loses ground in 5th position, still with 38.5 points. Williams is even aiming for this 5th place but is currently still a bit far with 29.5 points. Renault remains 7th with Alonso’s 16 points. BMW and Toro Rosso are 8th and 9th. Force India still hasn’t scored any points.<\/p>\n
