A bit to everyone’s surprise, BMW succeeded in its European Grand Prix a week ago, as Robert Kubica participated in Q3 and the Pole finished in the points (8th place) in the race. Nick Heidfeld, for his part, was never far behind. The urban track in Valencia seemed to suit the F1.09, but will the situation be the same at Spa-Francorchamps?<\/p>\n
This track is unique in its kind and the drivers know it well. Last year, Heidfeld managed the weather factor perfectly by using the right tires at the right time. The Spa myth comes from its weather conditions, which can be formidable! Tire management is therefore one of the keys to the race, and BMW will have to keep the rain tires ready. Finally, the F1.09 will have to withstand the strain on the long straights of the longest track of the season.<\/p>\n

\u00ab We are heading towards the end of this season which offers great tracks, starting with Spa-Francorchamps. It is a race track full of history. Most drivers love to drive here. The circuit is very long with high-speed corners. Finding the right balance is a crucial factor at Spa, which is very difficult. The weather is always unpredictable, and especially changeable. It can be dry on some parts of the track while there is a risk of rain elsewhere. Driving at Spa is a challenge and it’s always exciting to come here. \u00bb<\/p>\n
Nick Heidfeld – Racing Driver<\/b><\/p>\n
Spa is a sensational race. The 2008 race was one of my best. I was in the points and decided, shortly before the end of the race, to switch to wet tires. It was the right choice as it allowed me to finish second. Sudden weather changes can have a decisive effect on this Grand Prix. Even if it’s hot across Europe, there may be torrential rain at Spa. Additionally, Spa is only an hour’s drive from M\u00f6nchengladbach, so this race always gives me the opportunity to pay a little visit to my hometown.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Spa, it’s only three letters, but a beautiful place historically. This circuit is essential to the F1 calendar. We love coming to this small Belgian town. Spa is a fantastic circuit nestled in the Ardennes. Recent modifications have made Eau Rouge now the longest full-throttle section of the season. As this part of the track is slightly uphill, the engine power and durability are really put to the test. The second characteristic of Spa is the unpredictable weather.
